Frequently asked questions

What is Chote?

Chote is an AI-powered mobile point-of-sale (POS) system built for small and independent grocery and corner stores. It runs on the iPhone or iPad you already own and helps you ring up sales, track inventory and expiry, cut spoilage, and serve customers in their language.

How much does Chote cost?

Chote is free to start, with affordable plans as your store grows - and no multi-year contract. Systems like Clover, Toast, and Revel often lock you into two- to three-year agreements with early-termination fees; Chote does not.

What hardware do I need?

An iPad at the counter runs checkout, and the iPhone app lets the owner and staff check sales and run inventory from anywhere. Payments run through an Equinox terminal that takes every card and SNAP EBT on one device, and you can add a Star Micronics printer, scanner, scale, and cash drawer. There is no proprietary, locked-in register like Clover or Toast require.

Does Chote support multiple languages?

Yes. Chote works in 30+ languages, including Arabic, Spanish, and Hindi, so you and your staff can run the store comfortably in the language you speak. Most POS systems are English-only or English and Spanish.

Can I accept SNAP EBT with Chote?

Yes - on the same device as credit and debit, in one transaction. Many systems make you run a separate EBT terminal, a separate app, and pay a separate monthly fee. Chote does it on one device.

Does Chote track inventory and expiry dates?

Yes. Chote tracks inventory by batch, with each batch’s expiry date and cost, and rotates FIFO. It alerts you before products go bad so you can sell or discount them in time. Most mainstream POS systems do not track expiry dates at all.

Does Chote scan barcodes and fill in product details?

Yes. Scan a barcode and Chote fills in the name, brand, image, and ingredients - tuned for desi, Arab, Hispanic, Asian, and African products as well as American brands, not just a US catalog.

Is Chote right for a small family-run store?

Yes. Chote is built specifically for the mom-and-pop grocery and corner stores that big, expensive, English-centric POS systems overlook.
